Sega Says Its Crazy Taxi Reboot Is a Triple-A Game

Sega’s iconic Crazy Taxi is revving up for a triumphant return, and fans are eagerly fastening their seatbelts. The company has officially dubbed this reboot a triple-A game, promising an exhilarating ride down memory lane.

Crazy Taxi first burst onto the scene in 1999, dominating arcades with its high-octane gameplay. As a taxi driver, your mission was simple: speed through the city, pick up passengers, and deliver them to their destinations—all while pulling off wild stunts to rack up points. The game’s adrenaline-fueled chaos became an instant hit, and it soon found its way to home consoles like the Dreamcast.

In December 2023, during The Game Awards, Sega dropped a bombshell: a slew of classic franchises were making a comeback. Alongside Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage, Crazy Taxi was set to reclaim its spot in the gaming pantheon. The teaser trailer gave us tantalizing glimpses of each game, leaving fans hungry for more.

Recently, Takaya Segawa, head of Sega’s support studio in Sapporo, shed light on the Crazy Taxi reboot. In an article published by the IGN, Segawa confirmed that they were actively involved in developing triple-A titles, including the beloved taxi-driving extravaganza. He stated, “We don’t have any titles developed independently by the studio at present, but we intend to do so in the future.”

Sega’s commitment to quality shines through as they breathe new life into their legacy franchises. With Segawa’s endorsement, fans can expect more than a modest return; they’re in for a turbo-charged revival of a beloved arcade classic.

While Sega hasn’t announced a specific release window or the exact form these games will take, the triple-A designation suggests something grand. Perhaps we’ll see a fusion of nostalgia and cutting-edge gameplay, seamlessly blending the past with the present.
