Production on the new Mortal Kombat movie has started in South Australia. The film is produced by Aquaman director James Wan, and it's set to hit theaters in March 2021.
News of the start of shooting was revealed by a tweet from writer Greg Russo. The tweet shows a clapperboard on the movie's set, with the message "May the Elder Gods watch over us."
In addition, actor Mehcad Brooks, who plays Jax in the movie, posted a picture of the cover of the movie's script on Instagram. He accompanied the post with the following caption: "I've been doing this a long time but this one feels f***ing special. Thanks @wbpictures and @newlinecinema we are about to make some magic. Something y'all have NEVER seen before."
Mortal Kombat is directed by commercials director Simon McQuaid, who is making his directorial debut with the project. The cast also includes Joe Taslim (Sub-Zero), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Sisi Stringer (Mileena), Josh Lawson (Kano), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), and Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion). The movie is the biggest production ever to take place in South Australia, and it releases on March 4, 2021.
