The dating app Tinder is bringing back Swipe Night, an interactive experience that serves as a story-led way to meet new people. Taking place for three weekends beginning on September 12, the global live event invites members to rethink digital dating by taking part in the episodic adventure.
The new iteration of Swipe Night was directed by longtime Drake collaborator Karena Evans and was written by Big Mouth’s Nicole Delaney and Five Points’ Brandon Zuck. It asks members to serve as protagonists to the storyline, which follows a group of friends during the final hours before an asteroid hits. Throughout the experience, participants will be challenged with moral dilemmas and practical choices — and are only allowed seven seconds to make up their mind. Each decision point will dictate their next step and who they match with at the end. The choices will also appear on profiles, providing quick ice breakers for future conversations.
Swipe Night comes on the heels of a significant uptick in participation on the app — a result of stay-at-home orders and physical distancing. “When lockdowns began, we saw an immediate increase in our members’ engagement on Tinder,” says CEO Jim Lanzone. “So we know we play an important role in their stay-at-home experience.” In fact, the app saw 52% more messages sent globally and swipe volume among members under 25 rose by 39%. After months of swiping indoors, the event provides a fun and creative way to meet new people sans face mask. “While the global health crisis continues, we believe Swipe Night can bring a welcome change of pace to our members around the world,” says Lanzone.
Swipe Night will take place on September 12, 19 and 26 at 10 p.m. EDT on Tinder. Download the app to participate.
